Menopause - Increase In Asthma Risks?

Women with a BMI of 23 or less had four times more risk than normal; weight women. Women who were overweight also had increased risk. Thinner women have the lowest levels of estrogen. At menopause fat cells become the source for Estrogen and those who have more fat cells will have more Estrogen and this protects the lungs. Thus clinicians should be aware of increased asthma risk and lower lung function in women reaching menopause.
