Asthma And Dust Mites

Asthma and all-year allergy in the nose are so common, that we accept them as ‘one of those things’, particularly when the doctor tells us just to keep taking the medicine and not to bother about finding out whether an allergy could be the cause. But what if you could find out the cause.
Dust Mites

Dust mites are tiny insects that are invisible to the naked eye. Every home has dust mites. They feed on human skin flakes and are found in mattresses, pillows, carpets, upholstered furniture, bedcovers, clothes, stuffed toys and fabric and fabric-covered items.

Flour Dust Cause Asthma

For one in ten of all adults who suffer from asthma, work is the cause. There are at least 1500 cases each year. Bakers are one of the most vulnerable groups, as flour and grain is the second biggest cause of occupational asthma. Some 65,000 baking industry workers are potentially at risk from flour dust.

House Dust Cause Asthma

Many factors are recognized that may contribute to the development of asthma; among them are hereditary factors, pollution, psychological, emotional problems, and unusual weather sensitivity. Scientists in Great Britain and at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville suggest adding another agent: early childhood exposure to house dust mites.

How To Control Dust Mites

Its not quite difficult to control dust mites.Your first step is to encase your pillow and mattress with dust mite covers. Studies have shown that these covers are very effective at reducing dust mite allergens. This step has two main goals: to keep the existing dust mites trapped inside the barrier, so you won’t be exposed to them, and to prevent new dust mites from getting into your pillow and mattress.

Diagnosis Of Asthma

Your doctor will want to demonstrate that your air flow is significantly limited at times and that this is reversible. He is likely to do this by asking you to use a peak flow meter which measures the fastest rate at which air comes out of your lungs when you blow into it as hard as you can. You will probably be tested in the surgery and then be given a prescription to get a meter of your own and asked to record regular readings.
